The Most Exciting Time of the Summer
It’s here!! Well, it’s just about here! Sunday, VBS kicks off and I can’t wait for your littles, bigs, and even biggers (kiddos) to be a part of it. I can’t wait for YOU to be a part of it. Vacation Bible School would not be what it is without all of our amazing volunteers, men, women, and youth and without all of those excited kids that walk through our doors each night!
VBS 2018
My own kids have been participating in VBS here at Wright’s Chapel for around 13 years. I was talking with Misti Kai, our music director, and realized that I first volunteered 11 years ago when my youngest was just a few months old. I worked at the Sewing table with Ms.Thelma and some other wonderful women who welcomed me and my big old bulky stroller. A few years later, I volunteered to take the kids’ individual photos, then eventually all of the photography. I didn’t want to miss out on all the excitement and this gave me an excuse to be a part of it. It has been something that I have looked forward to every year and so have my kids. Bittersweet that this is the last year that I will have a kid in VBS bringing home a bag full of goodies at the end of the week. He’ll be moving onto middle school, but as a rising 6th grader he still gets to craft this summer. I have lots of decorated tiles, handprints, and crosses that still adorn my family room that all 3 kids have made. There are lots of spice bags hidden about my home, along with other creations that were carefully put together and pictures of my kids through the years that I will treasure for a long time.
Because that first night (okay, every night) can be so crazy for registration with a line out the door, we are making it easier to pre-register. We urge you to pre-register your child(ren), even if you are not sure if they will make it every night. It is much better to be pre-registered online than to have to wait in a long for your child to be placed in a family group. On average, I have taken well over 100 individual portraits of our kids throughout our VBS week, and even half of that is a long wait to try to register as a walk-in.
Four years old through rising 6th graders participate in our Vacation Bible School and will be placed in a family unit with other children of different ages. That will be their group each night and they will do various activities with that group. Rising 7th through 9th graders are registered on that same form. They will participate in youth group for half of the night and then will volunteer in our Marketplace each night. It’s a great opportunity to get some of those community service hours that are required. (Shawn and I are more than happy to sign off on those if needed.)

Rising 10th graders and up can volunteer in various parts of our VBS. They can be family leaders, volunteer in our marketplace at one of our craft tables, help behind the scenes, help with drama, or other various activities. Kathy would be more than happy to find a spot for you, even if you can only be here one night. We are still in need of family leaders and many other volunteers. If you are a mama, daddy, or some other important person of an itty bitty that is less than 4 years old and you volunteer, our nursery is available. They do get to participate in some of the activities of our VBS.
If you can help us, you can register online at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5JFxrh0xlkZRbiOSnq6JfsB5nQN80sKUScXpWRl2n64DCJw/viewform .
We will be talking about the early journeys of Apostle Paul, experience Bible times during his lifetime, live as Gentiles in Antioch, becoming apprentices at the marketplace, learn fun skills such as weaving, carpentry and mosaics, taste foods Paul would have enjoyed and hear the daily stories of Paul and join in the Olympic Games.
We will have VBS shirts available again this year. Our VBSers will be doing a craft with them. We are asking for a $5 donation, if you are able, for all kid’s sizes. You can sponsor a child, too, if you like. If you would like to purchase an adult size shirt, we will have limited quantities of those available for $10 each.
We start setting up Friday morning at 9 am, if you want to be a part of that magic, just show up ready to work. Otherwise, we hope to see you Sunday through Thursday night from 6-8 pm.
