Happy anniversary to me!
Happy anniversary to me. Pardon me while I toot my own horn. I am celebrating 1 year!!! That is a pretty big feat around here (::insert sarcasm::). I can’t believe that I have put up with Charles for that long on a day to day basis (::more sarcasm::). But I have come to realize that he is more bark than bite. Really, though. I was terrified, but very optimistic, last year at this time taking on such a huge and sometimes demanding role in the church. I was scared not so much that I wouldn’t like the job, but that the job wouldn’t like me.
It was a big change for me and my family and it has been a good one. It took some adjusting. Tom and our kids had to take on more house duties and I had to be okay with it. Who am I kidding? I was more than okay to let some of that happen.
I feel more confident than I did at the beginning, but I am still learning and taking baby steps. Things are changing and slowly enough to not overwhelm me or anyone else that may be involved.
And if I am to be honest, I really do love my role as the Children’s Ministry Director/Coordinator/whatever fun name that you can think of. And I really do love the fun folks that I get to work with on a daily basis, including Charles.
I am thankful for the opportunities that I have been giving and chances that I have taken. We had a children’s Sunday that turned out pretty good, if I say so myself. I was able to attend the Arts, Recreation, Worship workshop last year for the first time. I did a couple of day conferences with Shawn, one in particular that relates to the new Sunday school curriculum that we will be rolling out in the fall, with a sneak peek in our After School program soon. I attended Leadership Institute for the 2nd year. I went to Haiti with my oldest this summer and am excited about the next time. I even have a coach that I “meet” with over the phone once a month that has helped me tackle some areas that can use improvement. I even have done a few Women’s Bible Study classes and am ready for the next one on Spiritual Gifts. And let’s not forget out, Building Better Moms. I launched that with Charles’ coaxing and my fab girlfriends that were willing to take a chance. That is something that is good for my soul. (And we have a spot or two opened if you are interested.) I have met so many new folks this past year and many that I have grown closer to and I don’t know what I would do without their support and encouragement, that includes the ones that I am lucky enough to work with to. I am sure there are many things that I am forgetting because it has been a lot.
I am almost having too much fun and it doesn’t really feel like work. That’s a good thing, right? I think I will keep the job and I think they are going to keep me around. I am definitely growing personally and learning so much. I had no idea that I was missing this all along. Maybe I wasn’t missing it, because maybe I didn’t need it at the time, but I am so thankful and blessed by this opportunity. I can’t wait to see what happens this year!
Stick around, it’s going to be a fun ride.
And if you see Charles, ask him what he thinks about the snow?
