Missions
If you have come in the back door of the church the last couple weeks you may have noticed we have been doing some work in the hallway. Ron Tillapaugh painted the walls, Krista Kmety and Stephanie Beamer put up a world map, and Susan and Tom Driggers put up some shelves and pictures. This has become our missions wall. We had a slight issue with the last s in missions so Tom is working on that, so for now it just says Mission. But that got me thinking that really part of our mission as a church is missions. Our official mission statement is “Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the world”. The last part of that “transforming the world” is the missions part. We are called by God to love our neighbors, and as you see on the missions wall, our neighbors are all over the world. As Susan was going through and editing the pictures for the wall we decided there was just no way we could put up a picture of everything Wright’s Chapel does that helps transform the world. We have pictures of Haiti, lumberjacks, gleaning, Christmas in April, and homeless ministries. But there is so much more this church does. We have set the wall up in a way that will make it easy for us to switch the pictures out so we can share a little of what we do. That way when new visitors come to our church they will be able to get a small glimpse into what is important to our church. Soon we will have brochures on the wall so people can find out how to be involved in the ministries.
This summer we will have two week long mission trips. We will be going to Haiti June 23-29 and the youth will be going to Raleigh, NC July 8-13. Two opportunities for us to transform the world in two very different locations.
I want to thank all of those that helped us put together the Missions Wall. But more importantly I want to thank everyone in this church that makes missions a priority. Wright’s Chapel is making a difference in Caroline County and around the world. Whether people donate financially, physically go on a trip, or both you are helping us accomplish our mission of “Making disciples; transforming the world”. The disciples we are making our ourselves and others we come in contact with. The missions we are involved in are transforming both us and the world!
