Surviving!

Well, folks, I have survived my first few weeks…just in case you wanted to ask. And I have been asked, which is good, because that means people care about me and/or the church. I am a few weeks into my new position at Wright’s Chapel and it has been bumpy, just a little bit. I have only worked about 2 more days than the kids have been back in school, of course, not counting Sundays. If you are a parent, you may or may not want to add those days up.
What better day to start a new job than on a holiday (New Year’s Day), so I am thinking that first week is going to be pretty cushy with me only having a few days of work. Mother Nature decided she had other plans and snowed on us, causing a heating issue at the church and a leak at Cindy’s Closet. Believe me, it’s a little scary and a big “uh oh” moment when you wake up to a text from the boss saying, “call me when you get up.”  My first thought was “I am fired even before my first Sunday school”.  Obviously, that wasn’t the case.
So far, the Children’s Ministry Coordinator position is going well. Not sure about the two guys that I work with. Charles can be a little flaky and very demanding from what I have been told. I won’t mention names (SHAWN). I would hate to get on anyone’s bad side. But really, I love working with the folks in the office and Charles isn’t too bad.
I love my new job and I have loved seeing a lot of familiar faces in Sunday School and After School. It’s nice to know most of the volunteers and it’s nice seeing kids that I either taught in preschool or subbed for. (If you are interested in signing your littles up for After School or volunteering for that or Sunday School, stop by the office or email me at susan@wrightschapel.org.)
I do miss my preschool kiddos and it made me a little sad that first week after break and even today when I popped in at snack time. Rest assured, though, they are doing well and in great hands with their new teacher.
It’s funny looking back. I have been volunteering with our youth group, since Shawn came on board and I have joked with him on numerous occasions that I needed an office and that he should give his up. Of course, I never really thought it would ever happen and I never even meant it when I said it.  What in the world would I EVER need an office for?  I was enjoying my part time work at preschool and subbing at the elementary schools. About a year and a half ago, I took on another position at the church doing communications (Shawn isn’t a very good assistant, though, other than his enthusiastic reassurance “it will be great!”). Once again, I suggested I needed an office and I was laughed at. Who is laughing now?!? If he had only given me his office, he would have the bigger one now. I kid. I love the larger office.
I have rearranged my new office some, added curtains, consolidated items and have several bright rugs in my Amazon cart. I am trying to personalize it a little at a time by bringing in some of my favorite things and get a feel for how I live/work in it. I want people to realize when they walk by that there is someone new in there. And for now, the floor is clear.
