It’s the small things!
As you scroll through Facebook on Thanksgiving morning you see many posts about all things people are thankful for. It’s nice and a good thing to take time to think about all things we are thankful for. My second grade daughter had a homework assignment the other day to interview me about things I’m thankful for. I listed things like family, the church, my job, our home, and friends. That got me thinking though. When it comes to Thanksgiving and listing the things we are thankful for, we always list the big things. Now don’t get me wrong, those things I listed are the things I’m most thankful for. But there are also small things that happen everyday that I’m thankful for. Most of them are silly and selfish things but I’m still thankful for them. Here are a few small everyday things I’m thankful for.
Even though we usually have no traffic in Ladysmith and it only takes me 7 minutes to get to work, I’m still thankful when I drive up to the one stoplight we have and it’s green.
I’m thankful when the Washington Redskins lose so I can give Charles a hard time about it.
I love it when there is a cold can of pepsi in the refrigerator at dinner time. (Because I usually always forget to put them in there.)
I really love to eat cereal so it makes me happy when the kids haven’t eaten all of my favorite before I get some.
I’m thankful when my 10 month old St. Bernard puppy will stay outside for more than 5 minutes (although sometimes that means she’s digging a hole in the backyard).
I love it when I put a dollar in the drink machine at church and I get two drinks, especially when Charles only gets one (Is it bad that many of the things I’m thankful for are when I can aggravate Charles?).
I’m thankful for snow days.
So of course I’m thankful for the many blessings I have in my life. The people in my life and my faith and church are what’s most important. But if I’m being honest, I’m also thankful for these and many other small things. Every day good and bad things happen, but if I focus on the small things that I enjoy, I’m sure to have a better day. What are some of the small, silly, selfish things that you are thankful for? Happy Thanksgiving and I’m thankful that you read this blog (especially if I get more views than Charles’ blog!)
